What cool things have you been doing lately?

2018 has been the year of doing Brave Cool Things... I quit the business I co-founded because it wasn't a happy environment, went travelling around India and Asia for a few months with only a walking stick for company (I have Muscular Dystrophy and don't walk so well), and set up a coaching business / empowering platform called Be Stubborn.

All rational arguments suggested that I shouldn't do any of those things, but I went ahead because I was stubbornly determined to make myself happy. And I did! Now I want to help others work towards the things that are most important to them, by being stubborn where it counts.

Which girls are doing cool things in your world (please include any relevant links)?

I love everything Laura Jane Williams does, and can't wait to take her writing & pitching course at the start of 2019. And I'm obsessed with the High Low podcast; Dolly Alderton and Pandora Sykes are smart, funny and always interesting.

What I love about these three women, and so many more I admire, is how hard they work. Great things are possible, but you have got to put in the effort, and just keep going.

What was the last book you read?

Educated by Tara Westover. It was a fascinating memoir about Westover's difficult unconventional childhood in a fundamentalist Mormon family, her discovery of education and what her determined pursuit of it ultimately cost her.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I don't think I can choose! I have just discovered a song called "Me and the Sky" from the musical Come From Away which is amazing; it tells the story of Beverley Bass, a pioneering airline pilot, and her experiences of 9/11.

What cool things have you been doing lately?

I’m on a mission to help the 20/30 something woman master her mental health, let go of perfection and find and rock her craft so she can *finally* quit that job she hates! Basically I’m recruiting/uniting #imperfectionistas the world over to stop living the life they’ve been told to have and find the ladyballs to create their own gorgeously messy adventure. I raised over £21k on Kickstarter last year to create my flagship product - The Imperfect Life Planner, and I’ve just launched the 2019 edition! Before the year’s out, I’m also going to be launching The Imperfect Life Designer which is an online course for those who really need some help working out what they want to do with their life.

Why I am doing all this? Because I spent my life people-pleasing, striving for perfection and trying to fit in a conventional box (settled relationship, dream job, mortgage, car, the works). And fell into the darkest depression and 1/4 life crisis as a result because none of it made me happy. 10 years later, after tearing up the script of my life and starting again from scratch (literally! Ended a 12 year relationship, sold my house, quit my job), I’ve learnt a bunch of tools and tricks that I feel can genuinely help women a few steps behind me on their journey to finding *their* happy. So yep, The Imperfect Life was born! :D

What cool things have you been doing lately?

I launched my freelance digital marketing business back in May and it has been an amazing rollercoaster of a six month period! I'm managing social media accounts for several really lovely clients (creating and scheduling content including videos, running online ads, working with influencers), building new websites for clients and offering training to help small business owners make the most of their social media platforms themselves. I'm also going to be running a Vlogging Workshop at a festival in Aberdeen this month which I cannot wait for!

Which girls are doing cool things in your world?

I'm so proud to know Charlotte from @colourscarousel - the amount she has achieved is just phenomenal. She just launched her new site @bletherdigital and is doing amazing things.

Also, shout out to @easyasvat for creating this amazing site, and for your fantastic Easy Numbers course, which I took last month - it was such an amazing help for someone like me who is not from a financial background but is running my own business! (note from Julia: thank you Lynsey! <3)

What was the last book you read?

I'm currently reading and loving Emma Gannon's The Multi-Hyphen Method, but I'm also reading a novel called Your Second Life Begins When You Realize You Only Have One by Raphaëlle Giordano, and feeling SO inspired by it!

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Now that is a question! The cheesiest option would be Brave by Sara Bareilles because it always gives me a boost, but I also (random choice) listen to This is Gospel by Panic! At The Disco on pretty much a daily basis. There's a glimpse into teenage Lynsey, who has not changed her music taste at all, for you!

What cool things have you been doing lately?

I applied to University! 2 years ago I had surgery for Endometriosis and the surgeon botched it all up. I was bed bound for 6 months from a simple keyhole surgery, missed out on my alevels and going to University. The next year I took repeating my alevels. University seemed way out of reach to me, so I put it off, and decided to work for my dad as his secretary. Shortly after he got very ill, so we took the year together for him to re-cup and I learnt first aid, stroke awareness courses, and cancer treatment aid. This year I decided I needed to go to university. within a few weeks, I got an unconditional offer on my dream course!

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I'll Make a Man out of You from Mulan. I never saw the 'man' as a gender thing, I just heard 'be the best you can be, and if you fail at least pick yourself back up and get on with it!'
