What cool things have you been doing lately?
I've been getting my new podcast together and interviewing some lovely people who have decided to live their lives on their own terms rather than feeling pressured to pursue a path that doesn't feel right for them. Some have been forced by circumstances to really take stock of their lives (i.e, redundancy) whilst others have taken a slow and steady approach to building their business before they take the step into self employment.
It's been great to see and hear so many people deciding to take control of their lives and live it in the way they want, supporting themselves (emotionally, financially and mentally) to create and do great things. It's also refreshing to see how people are becoming so much more honest about their experiences, the hardships, fears and barriers and even the financial strain their decisions have lead to but these don;t deter them from their goals and dreams.
Which girls are doing cool things in your world (please include any relevant links)?
Darwin & Gray - Stacey - a lovely lady who has recently taken the leap into full time self employment after working on her business for a number of years. She's so chatty and warm and has some exciting things coming up for later this year/next year.
Deb Kendall - Deb has steadily grown her reputation in the Midlands area as someone who organises brilliantly attended events and is always open to saying 'yes' to opportunities and seeing where they take her, rather than being risk adverse. She's so busy but always has time to speak to you and get to know you as a person rather than just someone who attends her events. She's got a Christmas Market coming up in November and it's one of the best events in the Midlands by far.
Lucy Lucraft - her honesty about all things is inspiring and she shows her vulnerable side too. She is super honest about her experiences and is so willing to help others out without any benefit for herself; she's also one to take risks with her business and see how it goes.
What was the last book you read?
Ever since I was a child I've always had a book by my side and I've currently got about 5 that I'm the process of just starting, half way through or just about to complete.
The last book I read was A Year Of Less by Cait Flanders which had some good tips to declutter your life, not only physically but emotionally and mentally which is always beneficial when you've got 10 things on the go at the same time (running a business, personal life, books!)
I've recently started reading the Idiot Brain by Dean Burnett which is quite enlightening and Neither Here Nor There (his trip around Europe) by Bill Bryson who is hilarious, entertaining and educational all at the same time.
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I can't pick! I've got quite eclectic tastes in music and the ones that have strong, happy memories for me will always be on my Spotify playlists, such as Sweet Disposition by Temper Trap, Riptide by Vance Joy and Chains by Fleetwood Mac (but honestly I have so many to choose from!)
