What cool things have you been doing lately?

Well I posted my first ever YouTube video which is an exciting milestone I never expected to have the confidence to achieve.

I had my first mortgage advice meeting, going in with zero expectations and leaving on a positive note knowing I can achieve so much on my own. And super soon!

Which girls are doing cool things in your world?

My sister who has created a small business where she makes Woodburn Christmas decorations - honestly they are the cutest!!

What was the last book you read?

The last book I read was The Lewis Chessmab Trilogy by Peter May. It was such a comfy read for me as it's set back home in the Islands I grew up in.

Also who doesn't love a wee murder mystery??!

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Oooh this is so difficult.

I'm going to have to stick with one of my feel good songs, Higher Love by Steve Winwood

What cool things have you been doing lately?

I've been getting my new podcast together and interviewing some lovely people who have decided to live their lives on their own terms rather than feeling pressured to pursue a path that doesn't feel right for them. Some have been forced by circumstances to really take stock of their lives (i.e, redundancy) whilst others have taken a slow and steady approach to building their business before they take the step into self employment.

It's been great to see and hear so many people deciding to take control of their lives and live it in the way they want, supporting themselves (emotionally, financially and mentally) to create and do great things. It's also refreshing to see how people are becoming so much more honest about their experiences, the hardships, fears and barriers and even the financial strain their decisions have lead to but these don;t deter them from their goals and dreams.

Which girls are doing cool things in your world (please include any relevant links)?

Darwin & Gray - Stacey - a lovely lady who has recently taken the leap into full time self employment after working on her business for a number of years. She's so chatty and warm and has some exciting things coming up for later this year/next year.

Deb Kendall - Deb has steadily grown her reputation in the Midlands area as someone who organises brilliantly attended events and is always open to saying 'yes' to opportunities and seeing where they take her, rather than being risk adverse. She's so busy but always has time to speak to you and get to know you as a person rather than just someone who attends her events. She's got a Christmas Market coming up in November and it's one of the best events in the Midlands by far.

Lucy Lucraft - her honesty about all things is inspiring and she shows her vulnerable side too. She is super honest about her experiences and is so willing to help others out without any benefit for herself; she's also one to take risks with her business and see how it goes.

What was the last book you read?

Ever since I was a child I've always had a book by my side and I've currently got about 5 that I'm the process of just starting, half way through or just about to complete.

The last book I read was A Year Of Less by Cait Flanders which had some good tips to declutter your life, not only physically but emotionally and mentally which is always beneficial when you've got 10 things on the go at the same time (running a business, personal life, books!)

I've recently started reading the Idiot Brain by Dean Burnett which is quite enlightening and Neither Here Nor There (his trip around Europe) by Bill Bryson who is hilarious, entertaining and educational all at the same time.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I can't pick! I've got quite eclectic tastes in music and the ones that have strong, happy memories for me will always be on my Spotify playlists, such as Sweet Disposition by Temper Trap, Riptide by Vance Joy and Chains by Fleetwood Mac (but honestly I have so many to choose from!)

What cool things have you been doing lately?

I run a self-care mentoring service (Let's Get Back to You) which provides self-care support to the stressed out, the overworked, the overwhelmed and the just plain confused...because hell, I've been there.

My mission is to empower people to redefine self-care on their terms, as an intuitive, compassionate concept which genuinely supports their well-being. It's a total passion project and I still have to pinch myself when I remember that I'm allowed to call it my job now!!

I started the service because I've noticed that over the last few years, although conversation around self-care has increased within popular culture and on social media, the definition we use to conceptualise it seems to be getting narrower and narrower. It can sometimes feel as though unless you’re doing yoga 6 times a week, drinking green juice by the bucketful and buying all the luxury products on the market, you're somehow failing at self-care.

Now don't get me wrong I love a bit of yoga, and these things are definitely forms of self-care, but it's not a one size fits all issue and I'm looking to change the conversation!

Which girls are doing cool things in your world?

I am absolutely in love with Sophie French right now. Her pep talks, her resources, her humanness, have all helped me so much on this new adventure.

Lucy Sheridan is also a constant source of inspiration and support- she has completely changed the way I think about boundaries.

Finally, Sapphire of The Coven (a female focused business network) is just killing it right now. I would be lost without the amazing group of women I have found thanks to her vision.

What was the last book you read?

Mastering your mean girl by Mellisa Ambrosini. I'm currently reading How to be a grown up by Daisy Buchanan- magic!

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

The Booley House (live) by The Gloaming, it never fails to put a smile on my face!

What cool things have you been doing lately?

I have been working hard on my blogging but also I wrote an article for one of my local magazines! I am hoping that it will be the jump start I need to make on my dream career in writing!

I recently went to Liverpool and I finally met you at Love Thy Neighbour for a blogging lunch! Those pancakes were delicious!

I've also currently got a couple of blogging projects in the pipeline which I will hopefully finish before the end of the year.

Which girls are doing cool things in your world?

Well, this project my lovely blogging bestie has started (GDCT) is making amazing progress so far! (Note from Julia: that’s me! Thank you Lucy <3)

Also Ali Hemsley raising awareness for fibromyalgia on her Instagram page and also her blog is a big inspiration to all us blogger's.

What was the last book you read?

I'm currently reading The Man Who Didn't Call by Rosie Walsh. I'm currently at Chapter Six and I am hooked!

Another great book is A Song For Tomorrow by Alice Peterson, it's a book that hits home as it's about a girl who had Cystic Fibrosis.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Ooh that's a tough one! I would say Ellie Goulding - Love Me Like You Do. I absolutely adore the song and will happily listen to it all the time. A very close second is Ed Sheeran - A Team. You got to love a bit of Ed.
